From what I've read, there's normally over a million people standing on the sidelines of the New York City Marathon. As someone who has run a marathon, I can say that nothing keeps you going quite like all the people on the sides cheering for you. Every step of the way people are there willing you to keep running.
This was a face in the crowd, a kid, with his Dad I think, there to cheer on the runners. In this shot, I tried to get the main subject, the kid with his sign, but also tried to give location to the image, with the people in the background. I've been reading a lot lately about processing images using the LAB color space, and decided to give it a shot on this one. I'm starting to get the hang of making curves to enphasize elements of photos. I was able to bring out the background quite nicely (especially when compared to the original), and then used the channel mixer to make it B&W. Not bad for a first time, I think.
Assuming my ankle holds up, next year I'll be running this race.
